And depression induces complacency leading to unproductivity. We should break this cycle.
Aren't you absolutely sick of it? Every time you open a paper, turn on the radio, switch on the TV or browse the net, you're confronted by negative news or celebrity gossip. Or sport.
Fine, sports news is engaging as competition for supremecy is exciting. But to be blasted with reports of wars, rapes, murders, thefts, redundancies and failure is apalling.
Nobody would suggest that these ghastly things aren't happening. Yet, if you were consistently fed bad news by your partner as they returned home from work you'd start to wonder if they needed counselling.
And it's so unnecessary. There are businessses out there which are expanding and recruiting, beating global competition, creating innovative product lines, devising novel services. Certain cities are growing. Some sectors are developing in exciting ways.
Journalism has to change. I'm unsure how this cycle of despair began, but it's about time it stopped. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be encouraged, amused and enthralled. I'd prefer to be uplifted by success than dragged down by failure.
