Hot weather and rising fuel prices which hike flight costs will give a fillip to Cornwall this Easter.
Vacationers who stay at home in England, or as The Guardian calls them, staycationers, are cramming roads as they make their way to the Lakes, the coasts and inevitably to the wondrous land that is Cornwall.
Hot weather, and I suspect the rising cost of air travel on the back of increased fuel prices, are the stimulants. This will provide a needy boost to the beleaguered Cornish economy, which needs every tourist pound it can get.
While the weather can't be manipulated, the cost of air travel can. Plane trips increase our carbon footprint and boost the coffers of businesses and hotels in foreign holiday destinations. The recent increased taxes levied by the government on flights might also have the side-effect of assisting hard-pressed resorts in England. Cornwall, in particular, with its relative lack of other industry, will benefit.
